In one feature, one of the BBC's audio engineers introduces acoustic ecology, introducing architects, scientists and others who discuss how sound influences our lives, first in London, then in Hong Kong.
It also features an interactive world map (see above) with users contributing sounds from all around the world, such as cicadas in Brasil, silk looms in Vietnam, busy train stations in India, laughing kookaburras in Australia, and, even news helicopters hovering over UCLA covering the death of Michael Jackson.
Throughout the project, there's a a theme of preserving disappearing sounds.
For me, one of the most distinct sounds I can remember is of the tree frogs of Jamaica.
